Learn About Virtual Book Signing
Virtual Book Signing™ provides the excitement of attending a booksigning, without having to leave your home. Sit on your couch in your pjs, sipping a margarita, and watch on the computer as your own book is signed. This is a true, "real time" book signing. You are here virtually, watching an event unfold with you as a participant. You can interact with the author via email, order a book and watch it signed online. In a few days your book will arrive at your doorstep. Launched in November 2005, Virtual Book Signing™ has, so far, featured over 30 authors. Working with the Pritzker Military Library during our first year, we hosted many important authors, including Pulitzer Prize-winner, Doris Kearns Goodwin. Our events this season have featured some of the very best in Lincoln and Civil War authors. For 2008 our authors have included Gary Gallagher, Russell McClintock, Ruth Hill McAllister, William Lee Miller, James Percoco, Prokopowicz, Stephen Berry. Recent guests include Burrus Carnahan, Wiley Sword, Orville Vernon Burton, Julie Fenster, Jason Emerson, Father Robert Miller, Earl Hess, Gordon Rhea, Patrick Jung and Allen Jayne. Earlier this we hosted Elizabeth Brown Pryor, Bradley Gottfried, Thomas Craughwell, William Harris, Gary Joiner and Timothy Smith. Other visitors include Harold Holzer, Frank Williams, Richard Lawrence Miller, Douglas Wilson, Gabor Boritt, Tom Wheeler, Brian Dirck, the late Phillip Shaw Paludan, Edward Longacre and the legendary Ed Bearss. We have also hosted Presidential historian MIchael Beschloss and NATO Commander and Presidential Candidate General Wesley Clark. It was especially exciting to have Book TV joining us for General Clark's signing. Please visit the Archive page for condensed versions of these web casts. This new venture was introduced by Daniel Weinberg, an antiquarian book and autograph dealer, and proprietor of the Abraham Lincoln Book Shop in Chicago. “Traditionally, book signings mean leaving home and then waiting in line in order to meet an author for a few seconds to get a book signed,” says Weinberg. “ Virtual Book Signing™ permits you to attend an in-shop booksiging without leaving home. You see an author speak via a streaming web cast. Then you may place an order and see the book signed while you watch.” Weinberg foresees numerous developments at this web site, all aimed at bringing the excitement of a live book signing into the customer’s home. In the future fans may have a chance to interact with the author online and have their books personally inscribed. Instant messaging and video conferencing will permit authors to engage in round-table discussions with readers in their homes. “This web site could mark a new era in promotional events for book releases,” said Weinberg. “Readers will get all the fun of a book signing event without having to leave that margarita or get out of their jammies. ” Recently, Book TV visited during a Virtual Book Signing. The program can be viewd at Book TV. Also, our events have been covered in a Wall Street Journal Article and a article in the Chicago Tribune as well as Shelf Awareness. " I Appreciated Your Greeting! What a kick!," --Virtual Book Signing™ customer, Steve of Madison GA, of hearing his name mentioned as he was thanked for his order. The orders are processed through Abraham Lincoln Book Shop, Inc. |
